Research Fellow (Synthetic Biology & Enzyme Design)

About the role

The School of Biological Sciences at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore is seeking a Research Fellow to work in synthetic biology and enzyme design. The role focuses on developing novel biocatalysts and synthetic pathways through advanced research, contributing to impactful projects while gaining exposure to modern synthetic biology methods.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, construction and optimisation of synthetic biological systems and enzyme engineering workflows.
• Execute advanced molecular biology techniques, including DNA manipulation, PCR and molecular cloning.
• Conduct protein expression, purification and characterisation using methods such as spectrophotometry, HPLC and SDS-PAGE.
• Analyse experimental data, keep meticulous records and help prepare manuscripts for high-impact journals.

Required profile

• PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Synthetic Biology or a related field (completed or near completion).
• Ability to work independently, solve complex problems and manage several priorities in a fast-paced research environment.

Required skills

• Molecular cloning and protein engineering.
• Synthetic biology tools such as CRISPR and metabolic pathway design.
