About the role

The Legal and Secretarial Office at Nanyang Technological University seeks a proactive Senior Assistant Director/Deputy Director, Legal to shape and drive the university’s legal and compliance strategy. This senior lawyer will act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, overseeing complex legal matters and championing continuous improvement across the institution.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice to senior leadership on university initiatives, partnerships, research collaborations, procurement, IT contracts, retail leases, MOUs and LOIs.
• Manage litigation and employment disputes, collaborating with HR, and investigate compliance breaches.
• Lead and optimise legal and compliance processes, policies and systems to align with strategic objectives.
• Implement ethics, data governance and privacy programmes, including training and awareness activities.
• Build and maintain productive relationships across schools and departments to strengthen legal frameworks.
• Act as a change agent, influencing policy and championing a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Minimum 16 years of post‑qualification legal experience, either in‑house or at a reputable law firm.
• LLB from a recognised university.
• Proven ability to work autonomously, take initiative and deliver results.
• Creative thinker with strong problem‑solving capabilities.
