Senior Engineer (Systems Engineer) - Traffic Light Management & Sensors

About the role

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is hiring a Senior Engineer (Systems Engineer) to join a team driving the implementation and enhancement of pedestrian safety measures at signalised crossings in Singapore. The role contributes directly to pedestrian safety through Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) solutions and combines hands-on technical work with strategic thinking.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptualise, design and deploy technical solutions that improve pedestrian safety at crossings, using sensor technologies for pedestrian detection and smart crossing solutions, and evaluate emerging technologies through proof-of-concept trials.
• Contribute to road safety research, keeping up with industry developments and turning findings into practical innovations.
• Manage ITS projects and oversee contract activities, including budgeting and contractor management, so deliverables are met on time, within budget and to specification.
• Plan and supervise maintenance programmes, conduct site inspections, oversee fault rectification and carry out system testing, holding contractors accountable to their obligations.
• Analyse data and system performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of pedestrian safety initiatives, identify trends and generate insights that support traffic operations and policy decisions.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate activities, understand user needs and align on operational and technical requirements.

Required profile

• Degree in electrical, electronic or computer engineering, or an equivalent discipline; candidates with system integration experience are welcome.
• Three years of experience in systems engineering, project management or maintenance management, preferably in traffic, transportation or smart infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience or strong interest in sensor technologies, ITS or smart city solutions, with the ability to turn emerging technologies into practical applications.
• Strong analytical mindset, genuine interest in operations and maintenance environments, and resourcefulness and self-drive.
• Good writing, communication and presentation skills.
