Senior Principal Legal Counsel (Legal)

About the role

The Legal Branch of the Legal & Administration Department at the Energy Market Authority (EMA) provides legal and governance advice on EMA's functions, including its legislation, regulatory functions, agreements and legal matters, and the management of prosecution matters. The role works closely with EMA's policy, regulatory, technical and operational departments, the Attorney-General's Chambers, external legal counsel and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Advise and assist EMA's policy, regulatory, technical and line departments on legislation, contracts, licensing and regulation, corporate and company law, intellectual property, enforcement, governance and compliance.
• Take part in appointing EMA's external legal panel and instructing and managing external legal counsel.
• Liaise with the Attorney-General's Chambers on prosecution cases, legislation matters and legal advice.
• Review internal legal and prosecution policies and processes regularly, and manage prosecution cases according to timelines.
• Provide administrative support for legal matters.

Required profile

• Education in Law with relevant experience.
• Keen eye for detail, able to work independently and in a team.
• Experience in the energy sector, especially power and gas, is especially relevant.
