Senior Prison Officer

About the role

The Singapore Police Service (SPS) is recruiting Senior Prison Officers to lead a career in corrections and help shape a safer, more inclusive Singapore. The role is described as demanding and requiring strong nerves, and recruits are referred to as Captains of Lives. The recruitment process lasts about four months and includes a selection assessment, panel interview and medical screening.

Required profile

• A pass degree in any discipline
• Medically and physically fit; men must meet PES B1 or higher, or be exempted from IPPT under the revised Medical Classification System

What we offer

• Salary of $5,171 to $6,212, with possible increments for experience, qualifications and National Service
• $15,000 sign-on bonus split into $5,000 on appointment and $10,000 on confirmation in service
• 18 to 21 days annual vacation leave and 14 days annual medical leave (60 days with hospitalisation)

• 38-week Senior Prison Officer Course (residential phase at the Home Team Academy and on-the-job training), followed by a two-year bond
• Career path: foundational posting as a Senior Correctional Unit Officer leading a team of Captains of Lives, then developmental postings in HQ staff divisions, with possible secondments to the Ministry of Home Affairs and other agencies
• Upgrading support including the MHA scholarship for full-time postgraduate studies, study awards for part-time studies, up to 10 weeks of paid Professional Development Leave, and learning and development subsidies
