Senior Research Engineer – Chemical Process

About the role
The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is looking for a Senior Research Engineer to lead chemical‑process development for advanced seawater electrolysis, carbon‑dioxide removal and related technologies. The role bridges laboratory research with pilot‑scale plant operation, directly supporting Singapore’s decarbonisation and energy‑security objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Operate, monitor and maintain pilot‑scale and demonstration chemical‑process plants, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient performance.
- Lead systematic troubleshooting of process upsets, equipment failures and off‑spec conditions, documenting corrective actions.
- Identify and drive optimisation opportunities to improve yield, energy efficiency, safety and cost‑effectiveness.
- Develop, review and update process engineering documentation such as PFDs, P&IDs, SOPs and HAZOP studies.
- Support scale‑up activities by translating R&D findings into process design packages and engineering specifications.
- Collaborate with analytical, mechanical and research teams to integrate data into continuous improvement cycles.
- Conduct root‑cause and failure‑mode analyses for recurring issues.
- Ensure compliance with EHS regulations and Singapore WSH requirements.
- Prepare and present technical reports, progress updates and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Assist with procurement, commissioning, qualification of new equipment and operator training.
Required profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Mid‑senior professional with hands‑on experience in plant operations, process troubleshooting and optimisation.
- Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary research environment.
