SMT Test Engineer I

About the role

Jabil is looking for an SMT Test Engineer I who, under limited supervision, designs, develops and maintains test procedures, tester hardware and software for electronic circuit board production. The role sits partly in the office and partly on the manufacturing floor.

Key responsibilities

• Review circuit board designs for testability requirements and prepare testing recommendations and documentation from design through to initial production.
• Support manufacturing with failure analysis, tester debugging, reduction of intermittent failures and downtime of test equipment.
• Generate reports and analysis of test data, and prepare technical reports for test engineering and management.
• Design and direct engineering and technical personnel in the fabrication of test and test-control equipment, and coordinate development, procurement, installation and calibration of test instruments.
• Determine test conditions, sequences and phases, and run moderately complex engineering test assignments for standard and custom devices.
• Develop or use software and hardware to test machinery and equipment, and maintain semi-routine techniques to Jabil standards, including ISO and QS standards.
• May train production testing staff on new procedures, and comply with safety rules and company security policy.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering preferred, or related experience and training.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with In-Circuit Testers (ICT) and Flying Probe Testers (AXI).
• Able to tune test programs to resolve No Defect Found (NDF) issues and improve first-pass yield, and to troubleshoot and repair machines during downtime.
• Ability to read technical documents, write reports and present to managers, clients and customers.
• Physical demands include walking and lifting PC units and test equipment up to 50 lbs; close vision and frequent use of a computer monitor.
