Staff Engineer, SSD NAND Debug

About the role

Micron is looking for a Staff Engineer to provide technical direction and leadership for NAND-related debug in SSD systems. The role covers triage, debug and root cause analysis of NAND-Firmware Interaction (NFI) issues, and acts as a bridge between NAND design and product teams to support enterprise SSD development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead NAND-related debug in SSD systems through triage, debug and root cause analysis of NAND-Firmware Interaction (NFI) issues.
• Interface between NAND design and product teams to support enterprise SSD development.
• Represent the SSD product development team and product quality to identify, detect and reduce risks during product development and in the field.
• Conduct detailed debugging and failure analysis across firmware, hardware and system interactions using lab equipment and software instrumentation.
• Use AI-assisted tools to improve efficiency, quality and effectiveness, and share AI-enabled improvements within your scope of work.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of experience in embedded firmware/software development or NAND technologies.
• Experience in firmware verification, debugging and failure analysis in laboratory and system settings.
• Experience collaborating with hardware teams and leading highly visible, cross-functional task forces.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with NAND flash, non-volatile memory technologies or memory controllers.
• Preferred: deep knowledge of PCIe/NVMe interfaces and system-level storage architectures.
• Preferred: C/C++ and low-level embedded debugging, high-speed signal analysis, and scripting tool development (e.g., Python) for debug and validation automation.
• Preferred: proven ability to influence technical direction, solve ambiguous problems and mentor engineers, and apply AI tools such as Claude Code and Copilot.
