Technical Lead (Sustaining Engineer) - In-Fab Repair
kla · Singapore
Job description
About the role
KLA, a global leader in electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, is looking for a Technical Lead (Sustaining Engineer) to join its Singapore-based Sustaining Engineering team. You will act as the technical project owner for in-fab repair activity across KLA's China customer base, partnering with field engineers to diagnose complex tool issues and deliver engineering solutions such as plans of action, bills of materials and repair procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Own escalation projects from field in-fab repair teams in China and drive them to closure.
- Triage, prioritize and sequence concurrent escalations across customer sites by impact, downtime and business urgency.
- Plan and track escalation milestones and deliverables, coordinating field, HQ engineering, logistics and supply chain.
- Analyze failures using tool logs, repair history and engineering data to isolate mechanical, electrical, optical or software root causes.
- Guide field engineers through diagnostics and provide real-time remote technical direction during live repairs.
- Write Plans of Action, Bills of Materials and validated repair procedures and work instructions.
- Work with Design Engineering, Reliability and Product Support on permanent fixes and engineering change orders, and document lessons learned in the knowledge base.
- Bridge China field teams and HQ engineering, and travel to customer sites in China and to HQ teams in the US.
Required profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Opto-Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of sustaining or support engineering, or senior field service experience on semiconductor capital equipment (inspection, metrology or similar precision tools preferred).
- Proven ability to lead L4 escalations from triage through root cause to permanent corrective action.
- Fluent written and spoken English; working proficiency in Mandarin strongly preferred.
- Preferred: prior experience supporting customers and field teams in China, and experience with ECOs and reliability improvement programs.
Required skills
- Board-level troubleshooting: debugging PCBAs with schematics, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs and signal-integrity tools.
- Opto-mechanical troubleshooting: alignment, calibration and repair of optical paths, lasers, sensors, mirrors, stages and motion subsystems.
- Working knowledge of board-level troubleshooting, precision motion control, vacuum, high-voltage and electromechanical subsystems.
- Ability to write clear POAs, BOMs and repair procedures for cleanroom use.
