Yong Pung How Research Fellow (1-year contract)

About the role

The Centre for Commercial Law in Asia (CCLA) at SMU is seeking a dedicated Research Fellow for a one‑year fixed‑term appointment. The Fellow will reside on campus and pursue a defined research agenda aimed at securing a future faculty position at a reputable law school.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct independent research (approximately 60% of workload) and publish papers in refereed journals.
• Deliver at least one research seminar at SMU each year.
• Support CCLA administration (approximately 40% of workload) by organising seminars, conferences, and other events.
• Prepare reports, position papers, and undertake other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Doctorate degree in law awarded by a reputable university, completed or examined between 1 January 2022 and the present (candidates who have submitted their dissertation are also eligible).
• Demonstrated research experience in commercial law and/or private international law, with a record of refereed journal articles or conference papers.
• Interest in Asian legal contexts is advantageous but not mandatory.
