AI Product Engineer, Industrial AI

About the role

Evonik, a global chemical company active in sectors such as lipids, biosurfactants, plastic recycling additives and membranes, is looking for an AI Product Engineer focused on Industrial AI. The role covers deploying AI solutions into production, owning AI projects end to end, coaching colleagues and advising clients.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and transition AI-based solutions into production use in industrial manufacturing environments
• Run data- and model-driven analyses to identify and implement optimization potential
• Own AI projects from problem definition through integration into operational processes
• Further develop existing solutions and design new methods, products and technologies (R&D)
• Coach and enable employees in the field of artificial intelligence
• Plan, manage and execute projects, including collaboration with external service providers under a governance framework
• Advise clients, ensure reporting and develop standards, methods and tools

Required profile

• Several years of experience in technical consulting, enablement and introducing data- and AI-driven workflows into operational processes, including developing, operating and scaling production-grade ML/AI systems
• Proven experience using modern ML and LLM-based approaches (prompt engineering, agent-based systems) and integrating AI into existing tool and system landscapes
• Solid understanding of ML and LLM models, their lifecycle, validation and limitations, and of modern cloud architectures used in AI/ML
• Strong Python skills and experience with Microsoft Azure
• Knowledge of process modeling and simulation, Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code, and the combination of simulation, machine learning and optimization with basic operations research
• Responsible team player with a hands-on mentality and strong communication skills in interdisciplinary and intercultural settings
