Communications Business Partner

About the role

Rio Tinto is looking for a Communications Business Partner to shape and protect its reputation and culture, supporting the strategic priorities of Development, Commercial & Functions (DCF) and the Group. Reporting to the General Manager Communications - DCF, the role works closely with the Chief Commercial Officer and senior leaders of Commercial, or other Heads of Division or Function, and supports Commercial including executive communications. Flexible working arrangements are available.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver communications strategies aligned to Group and DCF priorities.
• Provide strategic communications counsel to senior leaders, ensuring communications are purposeful and effective.
• Strengthen and protect the profile and reputation of supported functions or divisions.
• Identify, manage and escalate communications and reputational risks as required.
• Support leadership communications, including business updates and key messages.
• Manage leader profiles and coordinate key engagements in line with Group priorities.
• Plan and deliver key events such as town halls and leadership engagements.
• Create and oversee high-quality communications materials, including narratives, messaging, digital content and visual assets.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Business or a related discipline.
• 10-15+ years of relevant communications or external affairs experience, including substantial experience in mining and metals, natural resources, energy, commodities or other complex industrial environments.
• Proven experience providing strategic communications counsel to senior leaders.
• Strong understanding of the mining market.

• Stakeholder engagement and influencing skills across senior and cross-functional teams.
• Strong writing and content development across multiple channels and formats.
