Data Engineer - Contract

About the role

Health Catalyst, a healthcare performance improvement company, is hiring a Data Engineer on a contract basis. The Data Engineer acquires, integrates and manages data from many sources, designs and implements scalable, reliable database solutions in a multi-platform environment using relational and NoSQL technologies, and works closely with stakeholders on data quality, security and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Acquire and integrate data from multiple source systems, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Design, implement and maintain scalable database solutions, and build automated, sustainable solutions while minimizing defects and technical debt.
• Evaluate and optimize system architecture to improve uptime and responsiveness.
• Develop and maintain ETL processes and data pipelines, and perform data mapping, integration and quality checks.
• Troubleshoot complex data issues and database stability problems.
• Optimize SQL queries, indexes and stored procedures.
• Take part in code reviews and incorporate unit and regression testing into builds and releases.
• Maintain compliance with security and privacy regulations such as HIPAA.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience with RDBMS (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle) and SQL optimization techniques.
• Experience with ETL concepts, data integration and troubleshooting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with high-volume OLTP environments and performance tuning.
• Ability to work independently and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field, and 2+ years of experience in technology or healthcare-related data engineering roles.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SQL and relational database principles.
• Working knowledge of NoSQL technologies (e.g. MongoDB, Elasticsearch).
• Exposure to cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure preferred).
• Nice to have: stored procedures, T-SQL and SSIS; HL7, CCD and EDI X12; Agile/Scrum; XML, JSON and REST APIs; Big Data tools such as Hadoop; Git and version control.
