Deep-Tech Founder (Technical) - Singapore

About the role

ATUM Ventures runs a Deep Tech Venture Building Programme that takes research-backed innovations from breakthrough technologies to investment-ready startups. It looks for a Technical Founder to lead the technological vision, development and innovation of a new startup from day one, pairing with a Commercial Founder to build a defensible product. This is presented as a founding journey rather than a job, shared in risk and upside.

Key responsibilities

• Define the technical roadmap, product vision and technical thesis, identifying what is hard, proprietary and where the edge lies
• Translate research or prototypes into scalable, reliable systems and lead early product development
• Design, build and iterate the core technology, balancing rapid experimentation with long-term robustness
• Collaborate with the commercial founder, researchers and operators to align technical milestones with venture strategy
• Recruit and lead an early technical team, from MVP builds to production systems
• Represent the technical story to investors, partners and collaborators
• Make decisions that balance speed, quality and ethical integrity

Required profile

• Proven entrepreneurial drive, having started something complex from scratch and seen it through
• Deep technical expertise, typically a PhD, MSc or significant hands-on experience in a field such as AI/ML, biotech, robotics, cleantech or materials science
• Ideally exposure through startups, research commercialisation or product engineering, with prototype, model or IP development experience
• A builder mindset, comfortable with ambiguity and able to bridge complex technology and the business
