Research Fellow – Novel Engineering Solutions for Climate Impacts

About the role

The Climate Transformation Programme at NTU seeks a Research Fellow to develop innovative engineering solutions for climate impacts, focusing on flexible seawall design and coastal defence systems. The role is based in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and involves both independent and collaborative research.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct in‑depth research on flexible seawall design, durability, environmental impact and cost‑effectiveness.
• Perform laboratory flume tests to evaluate seawall performance.
• Carry out numerical studies and modelling of test results.
• Analyse data and provide recommendations for coastal protection system optimisation.
• Write and publish findings in high‑quality peer‑reviewed journals.
• Prepare project progress reports.
• Support daily project operation and management activities.

Required profile

• PhD in civil, coastal or ocean engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 1 year experience in coastal structure foundation design and hydrodynamics analysis.
• Strong background in hydrodynamics and laboratory testing of coastal structures.
• Proficiency with FEM software such as Ansys, Abaqus, Plaxis or Comsol.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Publication record is an advantage.
