Trainee Biotechnologist, Cell Therapy Manufacturing (CCP)

About the role

Lonza is recruiting a Trainee Biotechnologist for its Cell Therapy Manufacturing team in Singapore. The role produces therapeutic cell products under CGMP conditions in a clean room, working with a team of up to 40 technical, SME and supervisor/manager colleagues. It is part of the Career Conversion Program (CCP), a 15-month on-the-job training period where learning is applied at the participating company.

Key responsibilities

• Comply with site and department EHS standards
• Learn CGMP compliance and clean room practices
• Maintain production facilities and equipment, including cleaning, sanitization, equipment monitoring, sampling, pH and conductivity checks
• Prepare solutions and media, then filter them aseptically into sterile containers
• Culture anchorage-dependent cell lines in static flasks and cell factories, harvest and concentrate cultures by tangential flow filtration or centrifugation
• Formulate and fill vials, inspect visually and cryopreserve
• Take part in aseptic process simulations
• Complete batch records accurately and carry out environmental monitoring (viable particulates, non-viable particulates, surfaces and operators)
• Aseptic filling of media bags and bottles

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in a related science or engineering discipline
• No prior biopharmaceutical manufacturing experience needed; training is provided
• Knowledge of cGMP applications and cell culture principles in a classified environment
• Team-oriented attitude, strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Willingness to work a rotating 12-hour shift pattern (day, weekend and public holidays)
• Able to stand most of the time and do manual work in a clean room, including carrying items up to 12 kg
