Android Software Engineer (AI Mobile)

About the role

A stealth AI startup, backed by one of Southeast Asia's leading technology companies, is building its global founding team. It is developing an AI-native communication platform that integrates AI directly into conversations so users can plan, organize, compare, research and complete tasks in one intelligent assistant. The client is looking for an Android Software Engineer to build and improve its AI-native mobile experience, focusing on production-grade Android apps where AI is central to the user experience. The role works closely with backend and machine learning teams.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain production Android applications using Kotlin.
• Integrate AI-powered features such as chat, vision, voice and recommendation systems through backend APIs.
• Design intuitive user experiences for AI interactions, including streaming responses, retries and partial results.
• Optimize performance, memory usage and responsiveness for AI-intensive workflows.
• Implement analytics, logging and user feedback mechanisms to support continuous AI evaluation.
• Collaborate with backend and machine learning engineers on API integrations and system behavior.
• Ensure stability, security and scalability in production.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of Android application development experience using Kotlin.
• Hands-on experience integrating AI features such as LLMs, computer vision or speech APIs.
• Experience publishing and maintaining production apps on the Google Play Store.
• Experience building apps that work reliably under latency, partial failures and non-deterministic conditions.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming with Coroutines and Flow.
• RESTful or gRPC APIs and structured data formats.
• Debugging, troubleshooting and performance profiling.
• Familiarity with ML Kit or lightweight on-device inference is an advantage; preferred: Kotlin/Java, SQL and NoSQL databases, TensorFlow Lite.
