Associate Sommelier

About the role

Raffles Hotel Singapore, a historic 19th-century hotel, is hiring an Associate Sommelier. The position delivers friendly and efficient wine service that meets guests' dining expectations, working within the Food & Beverage service team.

Key responsibilities

• Serve wine efficiently, in the right condition, using proper glassware and temperature
• Assist the Sommelier with wine options, advice and order taking, and offer aperitifs, upsell by the glass and bottle and after-meal service
• Be well presented, adhere to grooming standards and greet guests courteously
• Personalise service using guests' names and adjust to special requests, following the Heartist approach
• Upsell gently, such as suggesting another glass when the first is emptied
• Take wine orders accurately and deliver wine and beverages on time
• Set up mise-en-place, pick up stock from store according to par, arrange wine cellars, requisition wine and complete daily wine reports
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in wine and service areas
• Take part in training to improve wine knowledge, follow the colleague handbook and understand emergency and health and safety procedures
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors, and support Accor values and corporate social responsibility

Required profile

• Certificate or diploma in hospitality or a related field
• 6 to 12 months in a wine service position or similar operations
• Service or retail experience
• Wine, beverage and food knowledge through professional or personal interest
• Good interpersonal skills and fluent written and spoken English
• Presentable, well-groomed, enthusiastic, energetic and able to work as part of a team
