Platform Engineer (Cloud SRE Ops)

About the role

Assurity Trusted Solutions is recruiting a Platform Engineer (Cloud SRE Ops) for its Digital Resiliency Engineering (DRE) team, which builds and operates large-scale distributed systems for Government services. The engineer builds central observability and automation services, takes part in rapid incident response, provides technical leadership and guides the team on availability, performance and automation.

Key responsibilities

• Build SLIs, SLOs, error budgets and post-mortem incident processes
• Take part in an on-call roster to ensure reliability of critical Government services
• Provide operational support and engineering for large-scale distributed systems to resolve incidents
• Gather and analyse metrics and logs for capacity planning, performance tuning and fault isolation
• Build automation for services, infrastructure and applications, and use proactive monitoring to improve reliability
• Measure and optimise system performance and push SRE practices forward
• Lead designs of major components and systems, and build an SRE playbook for the Whole-of-Government
• Identify emerging technologies and work in a cross-functional team of software, infrastructure, DevOps and other engineers

Required profile

• 6+ years of experience as an Infrastructure Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer operating large-scale mission-critical systems
• Experience leading complex technical projects with multiple dependencies and stakeholders
• Agile mindset focused on rapid quality delivery
• Able to work independently and meet deadlines, with strong problem-solving skills

Required skills

• Monitoring, incident detection, runbooks and incident management
• Automation via provisioning tools, CI/CD and scripting
• Highly available, scalable infrastructure, containers and virtualisation
• Python, PowerShell or Ruby
• IaC tools such as SaltStack, Puppet, Terraform or Ansible
