Research Fellow – Self‑Healing Cementitious Composites

About the role

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at NTU Singapore seeks a Research Fellow to lead investigations on self‑healing ductile cementitious composites aimed at durable and resilient coastal protection infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research and development of self‑healing ductile cementitious composites.
• Execute project milestones in line with the “Self‑Healing Ductile Cementitious Composites for Durable and Resilient Coastal Protection Infrastructure” programme.
• Prepare concrete samples, perform mechanical testing, and carry out microstructural characterisation.

Required profile

• PhD in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or a related discipline.
• Strong academic record with several publications in reputable journals.
• Excellent references from previous supervisors.

Required skills

• Chemical synthesis and analysis.
• Concrete sample preparation.
• Mechanical testing of cementitious materials.
• Microstructural characterisation techniques such as X‑ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier‑transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy with EDX (SEM‑EDX).
• Knowledge of carbon sequestration in cement‑based materials (preferred).
