Senior Machine Learning Engineer

About the role

A stealth AI startup, backed by one of Southeast Asia's leading technology companies and building its global founding team, is looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer. The company is developing an AI-native communication platform that integrates AI directly into conversations so users can plan, organise, compare, research and complete tasks in one intelligent assistant. The role designs and builds production-grade machine learning systems, working closely with research, product and engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Build and develop core machine learning systems that power AI-driven product capabilities.
• Own the end-to-end ML lifecycle: data preparation, model training, evaluation, inference, deployment and continuous iteration.
• Translate research concepts into reliable, production-ready solutions.
• Investigate and resolve model performance issues and production failures using operational insights.
• Improve systems through rapid experimentation, measurement and iteration.
• Collaborate with research, product and engineering teams to deliver AI features.
• Provide technical guidance through code reviews, best practices and mentorship of other ML engineers.
• Balance production requirements such as latency, scalability, cost, reliability and safety.

Required profile

• Proven experience building and deploying production ML systems used by real users.
• Strong understanding of modern ML models, their behaviour, limitations and failure modes in production.
• Excellent software engineering skills and strong ownership, able to solve complex problems independently.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams.

Required skills

• Experience designing scalable ML pipelines and infrastructure.
• Preferred: Python, PyTorch and/or JAX, and GPU-based training and inference systems.
