Senior Underwriter, Financial Lines

About the role

Zurich Insurance is expanding its Financial Lines business in Japan and seeks an experienced underwriter to drive growth and support cross‑border initiatives. You will analyse and underwrite new and renewal business, working within delegated authority levels to deliver tailored solutions for broker and client partners.

Key responsibilities

• Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities and qualify accounts to align with the organisation's appetite.
• Conduct detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify and capitalise on growth opportunities.
• Negotiate terms and conditions, close deals and cross‑sell other lines of business to increase product density.
• Develop and maintain strong broker and client networks, serving as the key contact for assigned target accounts.
• Measure exposure, analyse risk and accurately calculate target prices using appropriate underwriting tools.
• Lead and participate in marketing presentations, sales team meetings and the target account process.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in insurance, finance, law or a related field.
• Minimum 6‑8 years of underwriting experience in financial lines with a strong reputation in the Japan market.
• Fluent in Japanese and English.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships.
• Proven ability to work independently under pressure and make informed decisions within delegated authority.
