NGL & Petchem Trader

About the role

NGL & Petchem Trading is part of the Global NG, NGL & Specialties Value Chain organization, which buys, sells, plans, transports and accounts for natural gas, NGLs, petrochemicals, power and specialty products, with personnel in the United States, Singapore and the UK. Traders negotiate pricing and terms for the purchase and sale of NGLs and petrochemicals according to refinery economics, market conditions and logistics, to maximise economic margin while keeping the refinery supply chain safe. The role suits a highly motivated person with a strong aptitude for a commercial career and offers insight into the crude oil supply business.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement negotiating tactics that support planned sales and supply strategies and improve their efficiency.
• Review market conditions and short-term supply and sales plans, recommending and implementing changes such as product yield, sales channel or import/export adjustments.
• Evaluate and execute discretionary trade and business development opportunities outside the core business (storage, blending, freight deals).
• Carry out negotiations and execute or recommend purchase, exchange and sale contracts that maximise economic benefit.
• Build and maintain relationships with counterparties and business partners.
• Prepare periodic reports on market activities and supply/demand or competitive developments.
• Work with Credit, Legal, Accounting and other parts of the value chain on contracts, regulatory compliance, information queries and acquisition/sales strategies.
• Take part in resolving disputes and claims affecting the trading desk.
• Analyse market conditions to optimise value from purchases, sales and exchanges in the short term.
• Manage basis commodity exposure and/or physical inventory, and optimise transportation and storage asset use, in collaboration with Refining, Scheduling and Finance.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Trader: 3+ years of trading or marketing experience with P&L responsibility for product trading, contract negotiation and scheduling (rail, truck, vessel and pipe).
• Senior Trader: 5+ years of the same experience.
• Location: Singapore; relocation not available; estimated travel around 10%.
