LNG Senior Originator

About the role

Shell LNG Marketing and Trading (SLMT), part of Trading & Supply, is responsible for the value creation of Shell's global LNG portfolio. As a Senior Originator based in Singapore, you will support Shell Japan's efforts to build and maintain relationships with key LNG stakeholders in Japan, including buyers, government and JV partners. Reporting to the Head of Origination East, the role covers mid- and long-term commercial activities across Asia Pacific.

Key responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with counterparties, internal teams and external stakeholders, including officials of businesses and governments in the region.
• Lead or support the origination of new LNG purchase and sales opportunities, from identification and structuring to negotiation, agreement closure and follow-through.
• Support market development in new and existing markets, including infrastructure requiring capital deployment and coordination with other Shell businesses.
• Support long-term business development and identify new counterparties and market or purchase positions.
• Act as a relationship holder for some existing agreements, manage disputes and escalate issues as required.
• Collaborate with the Portfolio Optimisation team on strategy, deal tactics and innovative deal structures.
• Negotiate and execute Term Sheets, Heads of Agreement and Sale and Purchase Agreements, then hand over completed deals to Short-Term Trading, Operations and Book Management.
• Work with the LNG Decarbonisation Team where appropriate.

Required profile

• Proven experience in LNG/gas origination and trading, with commercial market and business development, deal making and negotiation.
• Extensive industry network, especially strong relationships with Japanese counterparties.
• Fluency in spoken and written Japanese; fluency in another Asian language is desirable.
• Comfortable with considerable travel across Asia Pacific countries.
• Commitment to compliance and HSSE.

Required skills

• Good understanding of the LNG market, regional trends, customer plans and regulatory frameworks.
• Knowledge of the LNG value chain, from production and treatment to liquefaction, shipping, regasification and marketing.
• Understanding of LNG decarbonisation options.
• Strong analytical, economic and financial skills and business acumen.
• Ability to build trusted relationships and a compelling customer value proposition.
